The new year has been so busy & exciting, that January has just flown by. It is hard to believe that we are almost through the first month of 2017.

As usual, there are lots of exciting things happening on the Livingseeds farm.
There’s still lots of pollinating going on, some of our bean & tomato seed crops are already in. Melons, watermelons & cucumbers are all starting to come in for seed processing. Exciting times! We absolutely love this time on our farm!
James is very busy making sure that the latest seedlings are pampered and loved, to give you the best start for your winter garden.

The Garlic orders start shipping next week, and we’re sure that everyone who has pre-ordered some of our new varieties are waiting with great anticipation.  The new year has been so busy & exciting, that January has just flown by. Heirloom Garlic Purple Glazer 8381

This is a stunning year for garlic connoisseurs! One of our contract growers has been nursing and growing a number of outstanding heirloom garlic varieties. About half of them will be released this year with the balance coming next year. Livingseeds also has a number of very exciting varieties that we are working on, by the looks of things we will also have them released next year. All our garlic is in, and this is when our stocks seem to plummet at a surprising speed. Which is understandable as we are shipping out hundreds of parcels a day.
We have our packing teams furiously packing orders to get ahead of the ordering curve. And our offices look like a real mess for a few weeks as we play catch-up.
So now, let me answer our most common garlic related question:
Winter Planning
Crazy but true, now is the time to start preparing for winter. There is not much to do right now besides planting a few trays of cabbage and other brassica seeds for your early crop, getting your compost sorted for winter mulching, and designating beds that need a proper winter green manure treatment.
Planning for a great winter garden starts now, decide what you would like to plant, get your seed lists ready and focus on what your family eats, consider trying to grow a few new varieties this season.
There is a lot to talk about for winter planting, but more about all of that next month.
