Favourite August Recipe
Over the years our Tea Hostesses have provided delectable ‘treats’ for our Tea Table. Every month we intend to publish one of the favourites. This month it is
3 cups flour
¼ tsp salt
1 cup sugar
4 tsp baking powder
1 ½ cups milk
1 tsp vanilla – I prefer extract to essence.
½ cup soft butter
Beat butter, eggs and sugar till light then add the milk and flour in alternate batches till you have a cake batter!
1 cup soft butter
1 cup brown sugar (the soft one that moves by itself!)
2 TBS flour
1 TBS cinnamon
Mix all this together then drop spoonfuls onto the batter and swirl it in with a knife.
Bake in a large greased and floured pan (9” x 15”) at 170 to 180 degrees for about 30 to 40 minutes (till the toothpick is clean!)
1 cup icing sugar
3 TBS milk
1 tsp vanilla (or a tiny grating of orange zest – how about some instant coffee dissolved in the milk?!)
Mix and pour over cake after it has cooled for about 15 minutes!!
This makes quite a big cake (as seen at Garden Club) so you can halve the recipe, then its ‘pie’ sized!
The possibilities here are endless, add pie apples/ nuts/ grated orange zest to glaze! Next – I am going to try chopped soft dried apricots and a bit of almond extract in the glaze! ENJOY!!!
