Our exquisite miniature gardens on display at the Knysna Mall (near Woolworths) had shoppers totally fascinated. We  had 80 entries in varied categories: there were Zen gardens, Fairy gardens, Contemporary Gardens, Woodland gardens, Farmyard gardens – the list goes on and on.  20 Oakhill School’s Grade 1 pupils exhibited their Savanna gardens, Montessori’s 9 year old presented a beautiful fairy garden and 94 year old Marjory Eve’s entry was a delight.  She remarked that she gained lots of inspiration, and is already putting thoughts together for next years exhibition!

The concept of Mini Gardens is still relatively new in South Africa, but this gardening trend is hotter than vertical gardens, succulents, and edible landscapes.    Use  mini gardens as an ideal place to display a couple of geological treasures, collected on a trip or preserved for special memories. Set the mini garden  in a shady place which lacks interest,  or on a table top to bring it closer to eye level, or you can also use it as part of your table decor .. the possible uses are endless.

We wish to thank the Management of the Knysna Mall for allowing us the use of the foyer in front of Woolworths for 3 days,  AllSound Security for providing the night watch, Joan Spencer for transporting the tables borrowed from St. Georges Anglican Church, all the exhibitors for their participation and enthusiasm, all our monitors,  Vincent for fetching and carrying tables and exhibits, and lastly to Kathy Michaelides for taking the initiative, her hard work,  and enthusiasm.  Well done!
