Natural Insecticides

Posted by on March 8, 2016

At our last meeting at Penhill Nursery, many of our members requested Liz’s natural insecticide remedies.  As a garden club we have advised our members over the years to stay clear of commercial insecticides, fungicides and herbicides.  It is not only bad for your own health, it also has a detrimental effect on our fragile environment.

Getting rid of ants in the house:

Equal parts of Bicarbonate of Soda and Icing or Castor Sugar.

Natural insecticide:

To make up to 750ml (used Windolene sprayer or the likes thereof/1l sprayer bottle)

Boil together:

1 onion

Few cloves of garlic

Allow to cool & add:

1 tsp. Bicarbonate of Soda

1/2 tsp. Dettol

1/2 tsp. Sunlight Liquid

For crawling insects/whatever one needs for a contact spray, add a FEW drops of Jeyes Fluid.
